Are you guilty of Shooting the Messenger?

As a recruiter I am always having to advise people they did not get the role they applied for because, let’s face it, not everyone is suited to the role they want and not everyone has the experience required by the Hiring Manager.

There is nothing personal in either of these 2 reasons however it is human nature to take it personally and to respond in the negative. Often applicants will say “if you just put me forward I will get the job”. I know the client will not interview them based upon their background and experience. That is why the client engages recruiters – so they only see CV’s with the background and experience they require for a role.

If a client is willing to look at CV’s outside the brief then alternate candidates will be submitted.

I found this article from HBR very interesting and would love to get your thoughts.
